When it comes to my number one life hack for better sleep quality.
It’s got to be Magnesium hands down.
Yes, this humble mineral I had overlooked entirely until I delved into Dr Mark’s Hyman’s book whilst researching on Functional Medicine.
Whilst reading his book , I discovered that magnesium plays such an important role in your health since your body uses up Magnesium daily via muscle movement, heartbeat & hormone production.
Hence, it’s important to ensure that your Magnesium level is replenished daily.
Because if you have magnesium deficiency this leads to negative symptoms including TROUBLE SLEEPING.
So to combat magnesium deficiency, we need to incorporate more magnesium in our diet , by eating more of foods high in magnesium which are
+ Green Leafy Vegetables (like Spinach & Swiss Chard)
+ Beans & Nuts (Black Beans, Almonds, Cashews)
+ Pumpkin Seed
However, because of soil depletion that lead to lower amounts of Magnesium being present in food these days. It becomes tricky to ensure whether you are getting adequate Magnesium levels in your diet daily when the recommended daily dosage of Magnesium for Men: 400 mg, Women: 310 mg.
Since it’s important to get a consistent amount of Magnesium daily via supplementation hence I felt it’s proactive to add magnesium supplement in my daily routine.
After reading Dr Mark’s Hyman’s book , I had discussed with my doctor about Magnesium supplementation & he had added his two cents on How to Get Better Sleep using Magnesium.
- Do not look at your electronics : Phone , Laptop, Ipad etc at least 1 hour before you sleep
- Take 1 Magnesium pill immediately before you sleep.
The key to this life hack is you CANNOT look at your electronics after you take the magnesium pill. GO TO SLEEP IMMEDIATELY AFTER you take the magnesium pill
Ok, life hack sharing moment over.
What if you don’t have sleep or insomnia issues? Can you still take Magnesium ?
Yes , I pop a Magnesium tablet after my meal every day . I noticed my sleep quality has improved a lot after taking Magnesium daily and I do feel the difference when I skip a few days of taking Magnesium supplements.
Incidentally, I found out another additional benefit to magnesium.
Ladies, I’m here to announce that magnesium really helps to reduce the pain of period cramps. You don’t have to suffer every month anymore.
Can’t tell you how much I have been raving to my friends to take magnesium supplements when they tell me they suffer from bad period cramps. They agree that it’s such a life saver and much healthier alternative than popping Panadols every month.
If anyone has incorporated Magnesium into their daily lifestyle, share your experience ? Would love to hear your story
